Today I was fortunate to see Barack Obama in Denver. I say fortunate, because many people, including some friends, didn’t make it into the venue because of the overwhelming turnout. Here is the full video of the speech, one of the best I have ever seen.

For anyone who says that Obama is all about excitement and is lacking substance, watch the video to see how he talks about his stance on the war, the economy, the environment, and outsourcing of jobs, to name a few. The speech was motivational and full of content. It is so nice to listen to a politician who doesn’t sound like he is in Book II of Hooked On Phonics.

Caroline Kennedy introduced Senator Obama, comparing him to her father, who he referenced several times during his speech. The comparison is a valid one though. I can’t think of a politician since JFK who could inspire hope in crowds comprised of everyone from adolescents to octogenarians. Obama made promises, but he also put the people in charge of their own destinies with several calls to action.

I am cynical when it comes to politicians, but this one gives me real hope for our future.

Some would call it irony, but some misuse irony all the time. I say that it is by intelligent design that my first holiday gift this year is from the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Some friends brought over gifts yesterday and I received the “Touched By His Noodly Appendage” t-shirt pictured below.

Lisa and Katie also baked cookies yesterday and they made this noodly likeness of the deity.

Of course we topped it all off with a pasta dinner and some wine, as is appropriate this time of year.
